DVB seems to imply a very high speed pipe—many millions of bits per second. It is the foundation for direct satellite video to millions of homes. The typical DVB transponder may carry a dozen video channels and other services too.
But DVB has an elegant underlying protocol that allows transmission of data at rates from a few hundred bits per second to tens of millions of bits per second.
Everything—whether high definition video or lowly text data—is sent as a series of rather small data packets. For a very low speed data channel, only one data packet might be sent per second. The ultimate in scalability is provided: for higher speed transmission of MPEG audio or data, more data packets are sent each second. Modern DVB multiplexers are ready to handle hundreds of inputs to a single transponder uplink.
Satstream offers a DVB receiver that allows for complete flexibility in data rate. It can be configured for broadcast quality audio using internationally accepted standards.
Note: Images are scaled independently.
